Position Details
We are seeking a postdoctoral Research Associate to work with a team on developing, scaling, and applying models of land use and land cover dynamics for the study of land dynamics at regional to global scales. This position is full time (100% FTE), 12-months/year, with an initial term appointment of one year, renewable depending on funding and performance. The anticipated start date is early August 2018.
The overall goal of the project is to develop models that use agent-based simulation and equilibrium frameworks to bridge local land decision-making dynamics and regional and global scale drivers of change. Models are essential to support thinking about how future landscapes will be shaped by climate and market forces, and how policy and market interventions affect production of ecosystem services and disservices.
Work will include researching, developing, testing, and applying computer-based land-use models, and identifying potential linkages with models of ecological and Earth-system dynamics. Additionally, compilation and analysis of social and environmental spatial data will be required to provide inputs to and context for land-use models. Engagement and collaborations with an interdisciplinary community of researchers will be required, as will writing to support submission of publication manuscripts and grant applications. Qualifications:
A PhD or foreign equivalent is required. The successful candidate for this position will have expertise and interests in land system science, agent-based modeling, computational or data science, high-performance computing, and/or geographic information science. Additional areas of expertise could include a quantitative social science and/or economic geography, ecology of human-dominated systems, remote sensing, or survey research. The person in this position will be expected to collaborate with project investigators and other researchers and play a coordinating role for the project.
