Postdoctoral Research Associate in (ABM)

The Department of Natural Resources and the Environment at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on an interdisciplinary project focused on the bioeconomics of managing invasive plants in forests with heterogeneous landownership. The project seeks to integrate models of landscape composition, invasive plant distributions, and bioeconomic models to address both basic and applied research questions about optimal invasive plant management strategies at the parcel and landscape levels. Primary responsibilities will include building a bioeconomic model of invasive species spread and control within and among land parcels, and an agent-based model that integrates a bioinvasion risk model with a model of landowner decision-making over invasive species control, to be informed by a landowner discrete choice experiment. Postdoc-led research products will be published in environmental and resource economics, ecological, and computational modeling peer-reviewed journals. The successful candidate will work directly with the project’s PI, Dr. Shadi S. Atallah, Assistant Professor of Environmental and Resource Economics in the Environmental and Resource Economics program, Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, and Affiliate Assistant Professor of Economics at the Paul College of Economics and Business. The selected candidate will also work with Dr. Ju-Chin Huang, Professor of Economics, Paul College of Economics and Business at UNH. There will also be opportunities to participate in ongoing research on the bioeconomics of pest management and pollination services and one the bioeconomics of agrobiodiversity and pest control services.

Qualifications: Candidates must have a PhD in economics, agricultural and resource economics or a related field, and experience in two of the following skills and interest in developing expertise in the others: bio-economic modeling, discrete-choice modeling, agent-based modeling, and applied game theory.

Application Details: This position is based on the Durham campus of the University of New Hampshire and includes competitive salary and benefits. This is a full-time, 24-month, fixed-term position with a start date as soon as a suitable candidate is identified. Interested candidates should email (1) a cover letter describing their research interests and qualifications; (2) a CV; (3) 1-2 representative publications; and (4) a list of 3 references to Shadi Atallah at [email protected]. Review of applications will begin on January 2, 2018. Please indicate whether you will be available for an interview at the ASSA meetings in Philadelphia.
