2022DILEUA10 PhD student position: Simulation of acquaintanceship networks and agent-based modeling of network influence on cohesive attitudes
The research project “A network science approach to social cohesion in European societies” (PATCHWORK), funded by the European Research Council (ERC Advanced Grant awarded to Dr. Miranda Lubbers), announces the recruitment of a pre-doctoral researcher in agent-based modeling and simulation of societal networks and their effects at the newly founded Laboratory for Computational Analysis of Egonetworks, Social Cohesion and Exclusion (COALESCE Lab) at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology of the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
The successful applicant will work on the simulation of scaled-down societal networks based on representative individual acquaintanceship network data in six countries, and model network influence on cohesive attitudes such as solidarity and social trust, calibrated with the project data. (S)he will work within the interdisciplinary project and carry out their graduate studies in the university’s PhD program in Social and Cultural Anthropology (doctoral programs in other disciplines can be considered if preferred), writing a doctoral thesis based on the data collected in the project. The appointment will initially be for 1 year. After satisfactory evaluation of the initial appointment, it will be extended to another 3 years.
The successful candidate is expected to start in May 2022 (if another starting date is preferred, please state this date in the letter). The job location is in UAB - Bellaterra (Barcelona). The candidate will be expected to be work at the UAB office to collaborate with other members of the team.
The candidate will become a member of the COALESCE Lab, directed by Dr. Miranda Lubbers.
