CfP: Online Workshop Modelling the Covid-19 Pandemic

The Covid-19 pandemic has triggered a large wave of fresh research on epidemiological models, both using traditional equation-based approaches as well as more modern approaches such as agent-based modelling.

Even simple models proved to be highly useful in the dawn of the pandemic to highlight, e.g., the usefulness of social distancing and the dangers of exponential growth. However, the requirements for simulation modelling drastically changed since, as topics such as the socio-economic and political fallout of the crisis, human behavior in the pandemic, as well as vaccinations and new viral variants now play a major role.

Two years after the successful workshop “Modelling the Spread and Impact of the Coronavirus”, the Graz Schumpeter Centre is pleased to again issue a call for papers to facilitate the discussion among the Covid-19 modelling community to address these updated challenges. While the workshop’s main focus will be on agent-based models (ABMs), we also welcome other methodological as well as conceptual approaches. This workshop is organized within the project “Agent-based Economic Epidemiology”, which is funded by the Austrian Science Fund FWF.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

• Agent-based models of the Covid-19 pandemic • Integrated economic-epidemiological models • Viral evolution models • Modelling the economic impact of the crisis • Modelling human behavior in the pandemic • Politico-economic dimensions of the crisis • Socio-economic inequality in and after the pandemic • Gender relations in and after the pandemic

Please send your submissions (abstract of max. 1 page) to Dr. Patrick Mellacher ([email protected]-graz.at). Submissions are open until the 30th of September 2022. Notifications of acceptance and a workshop program will be sent out shortly after.
