This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://www.comses.net/codebases/4627/releases/1.2.0/
The work that this model started is not complete, there are a few unanswered questions which should be addressed with future models.
How dependent are these social dynamics on the ecological resource environment? The patchiness of the resource regrowth facilitates group isolation, which facilitates group selection. With a more smooth regrowth process, or a different resource, group selection may not be strong enough, and the cultural evolutionary rescue we see here may not occur.
What other institutions might evolve in different resource conditions? Fisheries, irrigation, pastoralism, etc?
The model should be re-implemented and simplified. It has too many free parameters as you can see in the attached sensitivity analysis. They should be whittled down to a small subset.
Can future versions of this type of model (endogenous cultural group selection model) be parameterized and calibrated for real world contexts?
I would welcome anyone who would like to take the next step. Especially if you can do it before I do.
