ESSA Summer School in Social Simulation

ESSA Summer School in Social Simulation

The Official European Social Simulation Association Summer School in Social Simulation 2023 is taking place the week of 28 August to 1 September at The James Hutton Institute‘s Craigiebuckler campus in Aberdeen, Scotland. The Summer School is an introductory course in agent-based modelling, aimed at postgraduate students, early-career researchers and analysts from academia, industry and policy, regardless of disciplinary background or specialism. No prior experience with agent-based modelling is required. The course is taught by Gary Polhill, Matt Hare, Doug Salt and Nick Roxburgh.

The course will cover material on deciding the model purpose and structure, initializing models and using data, creating model dynamics and using submodels, visualizing and analysing model outputs, and open modelling. It features group and individual work, and guest lectures from leading researchers in agent-based modelling: Nanda Wijermans, Alison Heppenstall, Kavin Narasimhan, and Émile Chappin.

For more information, and to apply for a place, see the Summer School’s web page.
