Postdoctoral research opportunity on studies of climate change and agricultural phenology in Chinese Academy of Sciences (Beijing, China)

The Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research in Chinese Academy of Sciences (http://english.igsnrr.cas.cn/) is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher. The successful candidate will be part of the Key Lab of Land Surface Pattern and Simulation team of CAS, and research interests including climate change, agricultural phenology and food security. The candidate will be expected to develop their own research within the overall project framework and will interact with Principal Investigators, other research scientists, public and private industry stakeholders. The candidate will also participate as a productive member of a larger interdisciplinary research group pioneering new climate mitigation methods and agricultural application.

Qualifications

A PhD in environmental science, climate science or a related discipline Understanding of numerical methods for data integration and analysis Experience in climatic or ecosystem process modeling Digital image processing and modeling experience Programming ability preferably in MATLAB or Python, proficient in ArcGIS

Position Duties

Participate in research program supported by “National Key R & D Program of China”, assist scientists in the analysis of model output and preparation of results for publication. Access and process IPCC climate model data sets, analyze the impacts of climate change on other parts of ecosystem. Conduct independent research related to climate change, agricultural phenology and food security, write scientific papers and publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Position Details

The successful applicant will be employed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences on a 2-year Letter of Appointment, supported by CAS President’s International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI), including competitive salary, international travel and other benefits. The position is located in Chaoyang District in Beijing, China.
