Two courses and forthcoming textbook on agent-based modeling

1. TU Dresden Advanced ABM summer school, June 19-25, 2011

The course introduces into model parameterization, model structures and selection, sensitivity analysis, handling of uncertainties in data, designing of simulation experiments and the statistical analyses of their results. The class is intended primarily for graduate students with basic knowledge in the development and implementation of IBMs/ABMs, who look for an effective strategy for analyzing their running models and conducting simulation experiments. The software platform “NetLogo” will be used in combination with the “R” software for statistical analyses. Basic knowledge of both Netlogo and R will thus be expected. Material introducing NetLogo and R will be provided before the course. The lecturers are ecologists (Uta Berger, Volker Grimm, Cyril Piou), so most of their example models will be from ecology. Nevertheless, scholars from other disciplines are also welcome.


2. Course "Teaching Individual/Agent-based Modeling", June 13-16, 2011

This short course will prepare college professors and instructors to add individual-based/agent-based modeling to their teaching and research skills. This course will introduce Agent-based and Individual-based Modeling: A Practical Introduction (Railsback SF & Grimm V. 2011. Princeton University Press), a new textbook designed for classes in which even the instructors are new to IBMs/ABMs. The course will be the week of June 13, 2011, at Humboldt State University, Arcata, California. 3. Forthcoming textbook on agent-based modeling

The textbook Agent-based and Individual-based Modeling: A Practical Introduction is to appear October 2011. Information on the book, and supporting materials, are at: .
