Open modeling platforms are increasingly emerging to encourage scientists to apply numerical models for their research. OpenGMS is a platform that aims at promoting an open web-distributed geographic modeling and simulation mode, so that comprehensive geographic problems can be solved through the web environment. This paper gives a short introduction on the background, the framework, and the potential contributions of OpenGMS platform, examples are illustrated accordingly.
